Armed robbery at Laois bank

Gardaí are investigating an armed robbery at a bank in Co Laois this morning.

A man entered a branch of the Bank of Ireland in Abbeyleix at about 10.20am. The raider produced a handgun and demanded money.

The lone raider left on foot and was last seen entering the car park of a supermarket across the road from the bank.It is understood he escaped with a small amount of cash.

Nobody was injured, and gardaí said the man did not fire his weapon.

Gardaí described the raider as being about 5ft 6in in height and of thin build.
