The Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is seeking voluntary redundancies due to a 20 per cent fall in donations. The charity yesterday told its 40 staff members of the cost-cutting measures which included redundancies.

A spokeswoman could not say how many redundancies it was seeking. There will be a 30-day consultation period. Cuts in expenditure were needed to provide core services and to ensure survival, Jimmy Cahill, chief executive of the society, said yesterday. Services and the workforce had expanded during the boom, he said.
