Allied Domecq has posted a 6 per cent rise in half-year profits and says its key brands are winning back market share.

Allied Domecq has posted a 6 per cent rise in half-year profits and says its key brands are winning back market share.

Pre-tax profits were £251 million sterling, up from £236 million in the same period last year. Turnover rose by 17 per cent to £1.7 billion.

Allied Domecq chief executive Mr Philip Bowman said: "We have continued to deliver good profit growth, with normalised earnings per share up 7 per cent, whilst investing heavily in the future of the business.

"While we continue to build the future growth of our business, we recognise that we have some short-term challenges. These include lower volume performances than we had planned from some of our core brands, particularly in the US.

"We have taken action over the past few months to correct the situation and key brands are showing a good recovery of market share over the past 16 weeks".

Mr Bowman said the group's performance in the second-half to date is meeting expectations.
