A judge has warned drivers about the dangers of relying on signals flashed at them by other motorists. Judge James Carroll threw out a £30,000 damages claim in the Circuit Civil Court by a driver injured when he acted on what he thought was an "all-clear" signal.
Judge Carroll had heard that Mr Gerard Carroll, of Newbrook Avenue, Donaghmede, Dublin, had moved on to a main thoroughfare after a motorist in a traffic jam had given way and flashed to him to come out of the side street.
Judge Carroll said every motorist should satisfy himself or herself of what potential danger lay ahead when emerging from a blind exit. Until they were so satisfied they should remain where they were.
