An Afghan youth, who claims to be 16, was remanded in custody yesterday following his arrest at Dublin Airport for using a fake British passport. He had arrived on Wednesday and was about to board a flight to Manchester when he was stopped.

The youth was charged with possession of a false passport and using it with intention to induce another person into accepting it was genuine.

He was brought before Judge Ann Ryan at the Dublin Children’s Court yesterday. He was refused bail and remanded to a youth detention centre while uncertainty remains over his exact age and identity.

He will be held at Trinity House detention centre in north Co Dublin, until his hearing on December 18th.
