The Afghan Minister for civil aviation, Mr Abdul Rahman, has been killed at Kabul airport.
It happened when a crowd of pilgrims angry over delays in travelling to Mecca for the Muslim pilgrimage attacked him, government sources said.
Mr Rahman was at the airport for a trip to Delhi, the sources said.
The crowd swarmed around his plane after rumours that their trip to Mecca would be further delayed because the minister had taken their plane.
