The family of a man allegedly murdered by the IRA is to meet Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams tomorrow.

Mr Adams will meet the family of Derry stabbing victim Jimmy McGinley after they called for his killer to be expelled from the IRA.

The McGinleys claim they have been subjected to IRA intimidation during the recent trial of Bart Fisher (43) who was sentenced to three years in prison on a manslaughter charge in February.

The family was outraged at the sentence and at a vigil and prayer service in Derry last month launched a "Justice for Jimmy" campaign.

James McGinley (23) was stabbed in the heart outside Fisher's Sackville Court home in Derry on October 2003.

They publicised the issue after the pressure placed on the IRA by the family of Robert McCartney who have campaigned for his killers to be brought to justice.

Mr Adams will be urged to use his influence to get Fisher expelled from the IRA though he has denied membership.

The victim's mother Eileen today said she is to meet Mr Adams at his west Belfast offices with her son Eugene and her sister Kathleen.

The family have claimed they were summoned by the IRA to clandestine meetings during the trial and told which members could attend the court hearings. Sinn Fein have denied the claim.

"I want Mr Adams to hear from Eugene and Kathleen themselves what happened. He'll be told the names of the men who were at the meetings and he'll be told where they took place.

"My family are not lying. These meetings did take place," Mrs (Eileen) McGinley said today.

"I want the IRA in Derry to apologise for treating us like this. We're a grieving family and they've no right doing this to us," she added.

A Sinn Fein spokesman said Mr Adams had always declared his willingness to meet with the McGinleys but refused to be drawn on Fisher's status.
