The following is the text of the statement yesterday by the leaders of the four main churches, the Catholic Primate, Dr Sean Brady; the Church of Ireland Primate, Dr Robin Eames; the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, Dr John Dixon; and the President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, the Rev David Kerr
At this critical time, as church leaders, we call on all people to pray, affirming that we are always in the hands of the sovereign God and Father of us all.
We have come together again this morning to meet with the First and Deputy First Ministers to support them in the search for a way forward in our present difficulties.
We have done so in the belief that it is vital for people to raise their sights above the present fears and threats, to raise their sights to the Christian hope, as it is expressed in Jesus Christ.
We call on everyone to act responsibly and within the law, for the sake of the present and on behalf of future generations."
