More than 90 per cent of Lotto millionaires had played at least weekly, says a survey of Lottery winners conducted by consultants DKM.
The survey of 27 Lotto millionaires showed 59 per cent had played the game twice a week and 33 per cent once a week.
The amounts spent in the week before winning were evenly distributed with a quarter of winners playing between £4 and £6 on their winning draw. After winning, almost 60 per cent of millionaires played more often or with the same frequency as before.
The survey was contained within DKM's review of the National Lottery 1987-2001, published yesterday.
On participation rates, it said 63 per cent of people on average played Lottery games regularly, i.e. once a week. The average weekly spend was £4.43.
A comparison of regular players with the sample population showed upper-middle-class people and farmers were under-represented.
In contrast, 30 per cent of regular players belonged to the unskilled and unemployed category.
