£75,000 in damages for haemophiliac

A HAEMOPHILIAC who has developed the hepatitis C virus has been awarded £75,000 damages by the Compensation Tribunal.

A HAEMOPHILIAC who has developed the hepatitis C virus has been awarded £75,000 damages by the Compensation Tribunal.

The tribunal heard that the man, in his mid 30s and from the south, had already been infected by the HIV virus as a result of being treated with contaminated blood factor product as a teenager.

He was one of a number of haemophiliacs who contracted HIV and had already been compensated by the Government. His £75,000 award is in relation only to his having developed hepatitis C.
