The slump in the construction industry claimed another victim today when a Northern Ireland joinery business closed down with the loss of 63 jobs.
Woodlock Joinery, which had been operating in Omagh, Co Tyrone, for nearly 40 years, manufacturing window frames, doors, conservatories and staircases, said it had been experiencing difficult trading conditions in recent months due to the downturn across the construction sector.
The directors said they had been working with professional advisers to address the company's financial difficulties and had explored all options for restructuring; however, a viable alternative could not be achieved.
In a statement to staff, they said: "It was with deep regret that the company had to take the difficult decision to cease trading with immediate effect despite the best efforts of all involved to keep the company in business.
"The directors wish to pay tribute to the skills and dedication of all employees who have, down through the years, demonstrated commitment and professionalism throughout their employment."
