Zagreb - Dozens of people died and emergency services were stretched to their limits across south-east Europe as a heat-wave with temperatures reaching 45 degrees continued to wreak havoc.
Forty people have died of heart attacks because of the heat in Croatia in recent days, while hundreds have been taken to hospital with serious health problems.
Temperatures of 45 degrees were recorded yesterday in Diyarbakir, south-east Turkey, where four people, including a 20-year-old woman, died from effects of the heat.
