PORT MORESBY - Twenty civilians have been killed and many more wounded in two of the worst massacres of the eight year war on Papua New Guinea's island province of Bougainville, rebel sources said today.

In one confirmed incident nine people were killed and five people wounded when Papua New Guinea troops launched a mortar attack on a church.
