An Icelandic freighter captain charged with conspiring to import cocaine into Ireland between August 8th and November 5th was yesterday released on £20,000 bail. Mr Sigurdur Arngrimsson (65), of Professorsgatan, Malmo, Sweden, was granted bail by Judge Brendan Wallace at Skibbereen District Court.
Mr Arngrimsson was detained in Castletownbere earlier this month following surveillance on his ship, the Tia.
He was remanded to appear at Bandon District Court on January 17th.
