GARDA forensic experts were yesterday examining the scene of a fire at a building in Wicklow town from which 13 young people had earlier been evacuated.
The occupants, all in their teens and 20s, fled the building, many of them still in their night clothes, after smoke was seen pouring from the building shortly before 9 a.m.
Two units of the fire brigade from Wicklow town and Rathdrum were called to the blaze at Wentworth Place, which broke out in a ground floor flat.
The occupants were taken to Wicklow Community Services Centre where they were treated for shock and smoke inhalation by a local doctor.

The residents were extremely distressed, according to Mr Bill Scott, who spotted the fire. "Some had lost everything in the fire," he said.
