CIVIC and trade union leaders in the Border town of Newry, expressed concern last night at the news that the Ulster Farmers' Bacon Factory is to close with a loss of more than 100 jobs.
News of the pending closure emerged at a meeting of Newry and Mourne District Council, at which it was claimed funds in the region of £5.5 million allocated by the Northern Ireland Industrial Development Board to the company were being diverted to up grade other plants at Cookstown and Enniskillen.
