Bukavu - More than 100,000 people are homeless and hungry due to militia fighting in the eastern province of Sud-Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the UN World Food Programme (WFP) said yesterday.
Some of the 250,000 people who fled their homes in 1999 have since returned, but "there are still 100,000 to 120,000 people who today do not live normally in their original surroundings," said Mr Claude Jibidar, WFP co-ordinator for the region.
