Irish language poet and author Cathal Ó Searcaigh yesterday welcomed guests to the opening of a new facility in Gortahork which houses his archives and art.

Dámhlann an Ghleanna (Faculty of the Glen), a light- filled house, has a large room for readings and discussions and a smaller meeting room and library, as well as a double bedroom adjoining his Meenalea home.

The €260,000 building was funded by Donegal County Council, Údarás na Gaeltachta and the Arts Council. It came about after Ó Searcaigh gave his archives and books to Donegal council in 1999. The building will host visiting writers and house his collection of 4,800 items.
