Go kids: If somehow you missed out on pancakes on Tuesday, tomorrow is another sweet day.
It’s the Orthodox feast day of Maslenitsa (Pancake Day) and the Russian festival, which has been running all week at various venues around Dublin, will be making pancakes a tasty feature of its family day, which will be held in Meeting House Square in Temple Bar, Dublin.
The festival marks the start of spring and it’s a chance to showcase elements of Russian culture – even showing small children the letters of the Cyrillic alphabet will be an education in itself. Starting at 11am, there will be stalls selling traditional Russian food, storytelling for children, music and face painting and lessons in Russian doll painting.
If after all the wandering around you fancy something a little more organised, there will be free performances of the Russkaya Pesnya (Russian Song) Folk Band, with Nadejda Babkina, in the Button Factory at nearby Curved Street at 2pm and 5pm. To reserve tickets, email russianfestival@dublin.ie
The family day ends at 5pm. dublincity.ie/russianfestival.
