IT'S A FREE WORLD:PORLURRIAN Bay hotel on the Lizard Peninsula in Mullion, Cornwall has a deal where if you book a family room or an interconnecting family room for three nights or more, one set of grandparents can stay free.

The booking has to be made between Halloween and March 31st and grandparents get their own inland-facing room on a room-only basis. Inland facing rooms are from £110 (€125) a night while a superior sea view room with kid’s room is from £130 (€148) a night. polurrianhotel.com.

Catch: the other set of grandparents may feel left out.

Take note:book three nights at the Porlurrian between October 31st and March 31 and get a fourth night free in the same category of room.

EAST AVENUECafe and Wine Bar in Killarney, Co Kerry is offering a free bottle of wine with dinner to everyone who goes on one of its winter electric bike tours.

Chef Eva Bermingham, who specialises in fresh fish and hand-cut chips, is running guided tours of the area that cost €20pp. The three-hour tour takes in Killarney National Park, St Mary’s Cathedral, Ross Castle and the lakes. Tours run every weekend but the cafe is offering special tours midweek for groups of four or more. There is also a special tour on Christmas morning and every day through to the New Year.

Catch: if you hire an electric bike for a day, it still costs €20.
