Off the beaten track:The 74th Tinahely Agricultural Show (below) takes place in the rolling countryside at Fairwood Park, Tinahely, Co Wicklow, on bank holiday Monday, August 3rd. T

here will be horse and pony contests, farm animal competitions, a dog show, live music and dance, a food hall, kiddies’ corner and a display of vintage vehicles and farm equipment. The show starts at 8am, and the entrance fee is €10 for adults and €5 for students and senior citizens. Children go free. www.tinahelyshow.ie

Cycle around Lough Derg

Muscular Dystrophy Ireland (MDI) is hosting a charity cycle around Lough Derg on August 15th. Starting at 10.30am from the Two Mile Gate about three miles outside Killaloe, the 80-mile route will take participants through the beautiful Shannon region. Refreshments will be provided along the way. Those interested in participating can either pay a registration fee of €75 or take a sponsorship card to raise money for MDI. Concern Golf Classic

The 16th Concern Wexford Golf Classic will take place next Friday at St Helen’s Golf Club in Rosslare. There will be 18 holes of golf for teams of four, prizes for the top five teams and a dinner afterwards. Proceeds from the event will go towards Concern’s education programme in Mozambique.
