KayakingTemple House, Co Sligo (near Ballymote) is offering two nights B&B, one dinner and a day's guided kayaking on Templehouse Lake and/or local rivers.

You’ll be on the water from 11am with a break for lunch (provided) and finish up by 4pm. Reasonable fitness is an advantage but no kayaking experience is necessary. It costs €240pps. See templehouse.ie or tel 071-9183329.

Whales/dolphinsAll-Ireland Whale Watch Day takes place at 13 locations around the coast on August 21st between 2pm and 5pm. This all-island event, organised by the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group in association with Inis cologne, is free and open to all. Binoculars or a spotting scope would be useful and dress appropriately. See iwdg.ie.

Tree walkGo for a stroll around Knocksink Wood Nature Reserve on Saturday, August 27th and learn how to identify trees with guides from Wicklow Mountains National Park. This gentle walk is free, for adults only and lasts for one to two hours (no dogs). There will be a morning (11am) and afternoon (2.30pm) walk, each limited to 30 places. Booking is essential.
