ORGANIC WEEK:National Organic Week begins on Monday and while there are many foodie events – some adult only – it also provides a chance to visit some great working farms, always a treat and an education for town or city children.

There are events all over the country. Some farms have made a huge effort, particularly Castlefarm in Co Kildare where next Saturday families are invited to come along and get their hands dirty.

Visitors can help feed the pigs, collect eggs and visit the bees, cows and vegetable patch. A cookery demonstration will take food from the farm and show how to cook and serve what is in season. Wear wellies and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.

The event begins at 11am when the pigs are fed. Directions to Castlefarm are available online.
