Dingle one of Europe's 'most popular spots'

TRAVELLER SURVEY:DINGLE, IN CO KERRY, has been chosen by TripAdvisor travellers as the sixth most popular destination in Europe in a recent poll.

According to the travel website, Dingle, or Daingean Uí Chúis, is "chock-full of friendly pubs where live traditional music plays".

It says this Irish-speaking area "fills to the brim with tourists on weekends and through summer".

"Charming Dingle", the website tells travellers, is perched on the Atlantic in Ireland's southwest, looking out over Dingle Bay to the Blasket Islands.

A regular visitor to Dingle's Gulf Stream-warmed waters is Fungi the dolphin, the town's unofficial mascot, the Trip Advisor website adds.

TripAdvisor users rate the Global Village as the best restaurant in Dingle, followed by the Chart House, Lord Baker's and the John Benny Moriarty pub.

Top-rated BBs are House of Four Angels, Emlagh Lodge, Milestone House, Pax Guest House and Towerview Bed Breakfast.

The number-one European destination in the TripAdvisor survey is Rhodes, in Greece, followed by Salzburg, in Austria, Amalfi, in Italy, Bath, in England, Siena, in Italy, and Dingle. Bruges, in Belgium, came seventh, Lucerne, in Switzerland, eighth, Vatican City ninth and Edinburgh, in Scotland, 10th.
