What it means:I know what you're thinking. A group of insomniacs have found the perfect way to send themselves off to sleep: the speeches and TV appearances of Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney. Wrong. Romniacs are 'Romney maniacs', self-confessed fans of the famously boring politician. They don't care if their man is as dull as ditchwater and has all the charisma of a newt. All that matters to Romniacs is that Mitt is 'reliable, stable and gets the job done', according to one poster on Romniac.com.

Where it comes from: It was clear from early in Romney's campaign that he needed something extra to make him seem a bit more exciting. Enter the Romniacs, self-appointed cheerleaders whose mission is to drum up enthusiasm for their candidate. They were out in force to defend Romney's 'leaden', performance on Tonight With Jay Leno; one Romniac even penned an epic verse about his hero, entitled The Romniad: 'Of Romney I sing, man on a mission/Washington bound, his broad coalition/ Numbering millions but voting by ones.'

How to say it: 'That's not a strip-o-gram - looks like the Romniacs are getting desperate.'
