65: Hyundai i10 – Impressive in so many ways

Hyundai’s i10 has been at the top of the city car tree for so long now that those who remember a time before it are are given special seats by the fire on cold evenings. Actually, it has been since 2013 that the i10 has been lording it over the rest of the small car class, and that’s not down to anything spectacular. In fact, it’s down to the exact opposite of spectacular.

The i10 is one of those cars that just gets, quietly, on with doing what it does well, and worms its way into your affections through sheer competence.

As at home divining into city centre parking spaces as it is dodging artics on the M1, it’s a fully-rounded small car, rather than a limited or reduced city car. 1.0-litre petrol engine is game (and an improvement on the old 1.1) but the steering is disappointingly rubbery and short on information.
