13: Toyota C-HR – Bucks the crossover trend by being rather lovable

Top 100 cars for 2019: Lexus-level of interior trim but back seats are tight

Small crossovers are often a desultory bunch, and frequently leave one underwhelmed in the styling and dynamics departments, but the C-HR bucks that trend by being really rather loveable. It looks distinctive, that's for sure, with styling that seems more Nike than Toyota.

Its trump card it is cabin, though, which cleaves closer to Lexus than mainstream Toyota, both in terms of its styling and its quality levels. No diesel option means you’re currently limited to a 1.2-litre 116hp petrol turbo or the 1.8-litre hybrid from the Prius. The chassis is fun, with light, responsive steering and good balance. The downside? The back seats and boot are small.
