PSA PEUGEOT-Citroën will start production of an electric minicar in Europe based on Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV next year.

PSA PEUGEOT-Citroën will start production of an electric minicar in Europe based on Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV next year.

The project marks a strengthening of ties between the carmakers, which are building a joint-venture factory in Russia, due to produce vehicles from 2011.

Production of the electric car is due to begin in October 2010 and commercial sales will start by the end of the year.

In June 2008 the companies signed a letter of intent for a feasibility study on the use of Mitsubishi’s batteries and electric powertrains in Peugeot and Citroën cars.

Several other carmakers recently announced intentions to produce plug-in hybrid or all-electric cars that get power from rechargeable batteries.
