The opening batch of expensive apartments in Dublin's first high-rise apartment block were quickly bought up when they went on the market last Thursday. A total of 14 of the 16 two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments in the first phase of Millennium Tower, at Charlotte Quay, Ringsend, Dublin 4, were sold mainly to business people and young professionals. David Cantwell of selling agents Hooke & MacDonald said the vast majority of the purchasers planned to live in the apartments.

The apartments sold are all located between the third and eight floors. Two-bedroom units made between £230,000 and £350,000, depending on the floor, while three-bedroom apartments fetched from £300,000 to £400,000. The Millennium Tower apartments are easily the best built by Zoe Developments over the past decade. The company's agents will be taking bookings after Easter for the next group of apartments in the 16-storey block, which is on the edge of the Grand Canal Basin. There are 48 apartments in the block, including three stunning penthouses. U2 singer Bono is understood to be interested in acquiring the largest penthouse, which will have 1,100 sq ft and a private terrace with 600 sq ft. The unit is likely to make in excess of £1 million when it is sold at auction.
