Number 2, a terraced redbrick had been vacant for seven years and needed complete modernisation when the current owners bought it in 2012. Paying €170,000 for the then four-bedroom house, according to the Property Price Register, they renovated the property, opening up the ground floor to create an open livingroom cum diningroom that runs the width of the original house.

The couple dry-lined the property front and back and installed triple-glazed windows throughout. The house has concrete floors on the ground and first floors. Both have been floored in sealed Canadian oak boards.

Originally a four-bedroom property, they downsized to three bedrooms, adding a decent-sized family bathroom.

The finish throughout is to a high standard. The couple scraped years of paint off the cast-iron fireplaces in the livingroom and dipped all the doors to remove lifetimes of paint.

There is also an attic room, accessed via a narrow and steep staircase. A bigger roof light would allow better views of the Dublin Mountains.

The house now has a C1 Ber, let down slightly by the fact that the property next door remains in commercial use.
