One of Iona Road's larger houses is for sale by private treaty through HOK Residential at £480,000 (609,600).All the houses on this road - one of Glasnevin's finest - are different and this one, number 82, is a semi-detached five-bedroom, redbrick that last changed hands in the 1940s.

The first group of residents who bought the houses from Strain, the builder, in 1908, had different specifications. It is clear from the stained glass that is in most of the rooms in number 82, as well as from the fine marble fireplaces, that the first owners of this house had money to spend.

The new owners will also need to spend money as the house is in need of renovation and redecoration. In its present condition it is full of genteel, old-world charm - with some of the wallpaper clearly dating back to the middle of the last century. Some work was carried out in the 1980s when new kitchen units were fitted, a utility room built and central heating installed but other than that the house has all its original features including some fine marble and cast-iron fireplaces, decorative tiling and of course the stained glass in the front and rear windows.

Downstairs there are two interconnecting rooms, divided by sliding doors. The house has a very large return and in it at ground level are two rooms - a diningroom and, further along, the kitchen and utility room. These need to be upgraded.

The first of the five bedrooms is in the return while three more - two large doubles and a single - are up a half flight of stairs. A stained glass window in the return lights the hallway and the main bedroom has the lovely square bay window. The bathroom will need upgrading.

The attic level is the surprise of this house as it is unusual in houses on the road. There are three rooms here; one is a double bedroom, the other two are a boxroom and a small storage room that could be converted into an en suite for the bedroom.

There is a long, wide back garden which would not be compromised if new owners extended the kitchen.
