AN Edwardian semi-detached house on one of the most sought after roads in Ranelagh, Dublin 6 has come on the market asking €1.4 million. The four-bedroom house at 44 Park Drive is for sale through Sherry FitzGerald, where Christopher Bradley is handling enquiries.

Though the price is very much at the upper level for the neighbourhood at present, the house has plenty to recommend it, being spacious and bright, with all of its original features pretty much intact.

It was built around 1907, to a design that was was presented by builder William Pickering at the Dublin International Exhibition in Herbert Park in the same year, which showcased the best of the building materials and home decor.

Park Drive was originally known as Prince Edward Terrace as Edward VII himself came to open the exhibition. The name was later changed when Anglo Irish relations became strained.

It’s a good sized home at 198sq m (2,130sq ft), though new owners are sure to follow the trend of blowing out the back of the house to create a larger kitchen. This however would eat into the not so large garden.

Two large interconnecting reception rooms have tall windows topped with stained and leaded glass.

An impressive carved staircase leads on up to the first floor where the main bedroom leads to a large dressingroom. The second bedroom and family bathroom are on this floor, with two further bedrooms, one of which has its own study, on the top floor where there is space to build a bathroom.
