House prices have remained lower in Tallaght than in many other Dublin suburbs

House prices have remained lower in Tallaght than in many other Dublin suburbs. In fact, it is the city's most undervalued suburb, less than eight miles from O'Connell Street and an ideal first-time buyer choice. The successful Square shopping centre with its multiplex cinema, stylish new hotel and civic theatre has become a focal point for the town, which has a population of around 80,000. The regional college is now a highly acclaimed Institute of Technology. This, combined with the hospital and industrial estates off Belgard Road, has created a huge demand for rental accommodation in the area. Tallaght 2000, a major expansion programme for the town, is well under way, with a new inner road network, multi-storey parking, shops, offices and apartments. An extension of the bypass along the road to Blessington is planned for the future.

A National Digital Park is to be built on 100 acres not far away at City West and the FAI's proposed Eircom Park stadium will be in this area. Sporting and educational facilities are in abundance in the area, so many that they are impossible to numerate. All this, yet you can still buy a three-bedroom semi in a pleasant residential estate for under £150,000.
