The limited Editions touring exhibition is not about inaccessible art pieces, says Cornelia McCarthy of the Crafts Council of Ireland, but "designs that are saleable".
Heart and home are the themes running through the work of the 20 Irish designers and craftmakers. Their work will be on show until tomorrow (August 31st) at the Whichcraft gallery in Cow's Lane, Temple Bar, Dublin, and will move to Belfast on September 6th.
Heart-inspired submissions include the ring box pendant with mobile gold heart designed by jeweller Alan Ardiff, Declan Killen's architecturally inspired silver pendants and Catherine Bond's wedding themed pocket cushions in reflective yarns.
Home-themed designs include Shauna Sword's illuminated pleated paper and fabric vessels and Kate Oram's indoor sculptures.
Other designs on show are the Bauhaus-inspired glass bowl by Abbie Dixon, wood and silver chalice and goblet from SinΘad McLaughlin and walnut platter with stainless steel spine from woodturner Glenn Lucas - who has been chosen as the overall winner of the £2,500 award sponsored by InterTradeIreland for "pushing the boundaries of his material," says Cornelia McCarthy.
All of the submissions are on sale. Prices start at around £40 and go up to over £2,000.
Limited Editions will run in the Bedford House on Bedford Street in Belfast from September 6th to 22nd and the National Craft Gallery in Castle Yard, Kilkenny from October 3rd to 22nd.
