Even Biddy is jumping on the land fever bandwagon

You know property fever is really taking hold when even Biddy in Glenroe has started to see the farm as a great big commutable-to-Dublin site instead of a home for Miley and the cows. In last week's episode, she was full of the news of the next farm being sold off for £2.5 million. Well never ones to miss a trick, the The Irish Auctioneers and Valuers Institute will once again be taking a stand at the National Ploughing Champion- ships, which start in Castletownroche, Mallow, Co Cork, next Tuesday. According to Gerry Slattery of Warren Estates in Wexford, rural land prices have been rising steadily even though there has been no boom in farm incomes to justify any rise. He says that it is due to land being sold for residential developments, road by-passes and just about any use other than farming.
