Back to the drawing board for Sorrento House

It's back to the drawing board for car alarms magnate Terry Coleman, whose £5.9 million Sorrento House is not to get the extension he wants. An Bord Pleanala has upheld an objection to the scheme from the Dalkey Community Council, which took exception to the very large extension that Mr Coleman wanted to slap on the side and back of the house. The board didn't buy it and it will be interesting to see how Mr Coleman gets out of this fix. As it stands, the house needs extensive refurbishment but given the board's ruling that it will not allow anything that will "detract from the architectural integrity of the terrace" his options would seem to be extremely limited.
