Describe the house?

On one acre of land, the cottage is very secluded, overlooking Mount Callan with panaromic views all around. The tower on the Cliffs of Moher can be seen from the adjoining paddock. The original cottage has been renovated with eco-friendly materials, including rendering made of lime putty and yak hair and the use of organic paints and varnishes.

The new roof is natural slate. Velux windows have added light and the extension has high ceilings.

The original Liscannor slate flooring was restored and a damp-proof course laid. The kitchen has all mod cons.

The main bedroom, in the new extension, is very large with vaulted ceilings and French doors to the back patio. This is especially lovely in the winter months when it acts as a vault for the winter solstice.

There is a large cowshed which is currently used as a workshop and there are raised vegetable beds in the side field.

And the neighbourhood?

There is a saying that if you throw a stone in Clare you will hit an artist or musician. We found that to be true. There is a thriving arts community around the locality.

Why are you moving?

We bought the cottage four years ago with the intention of living here full-time.

Unfortunately, family and work committments in Dublin have increased and we found ourselves commuting more than we intended.

We have relocated, reluctantly, closer to Dublin.

Who would like to live in your house?

Romantic souls of whatever age. According to the neighbours, the cottage was known as the music house as it was where regular ceilis were hosted, so perhaps musicians would find a spiritual home there.
