Club's 133rd show has literary theme

SOME institutions pre-date the State but continue to flourish

SOME institutions pre-date the State but continue to flourish. The Dublin Painting and Sketching Club which, despite its name, has members nationwide, was founded in 1874, but is still going strong.

On Monday, the club’s 133rd annual exhibition opens to the public for a fortnight at the Concourse Gallery in the County Hall, Dún Laoghaire.

Some 290 works, including oil and watercolour paintings, pastels, lithographs, etchings and drawings will be on sale with prices starting at around €200.

You might pick up a work by a future star; over the years the club’s members have included some famous artists such as Rex Whistler, Walter Osborne, John Butler Yeats, Richard Orpen, Nathaniel Hone, Percy French and Sarah Purser.
