DeVeres interiors auction takes place this Sunday at the Pavilion, Leopardstown Race Course. The lots include contemporary, 20th century design and period furniture.

With the 100-year anniversary of his birth coming up in April 2014 Danish design icon Hans J Wegner has become the centre of renewed international attention

One of his designs, officially known as PP 503, made furniture history when it was used as the seating in America’s first televised debate between John F Kennedy and Richard Nixon.

Lot 107 is a set of six of these chairs in teak. Partially wrapped in cane with a cane seat and branded Johannes Hansen, Copenhagen, Denmark, they date from around 1949 and have a guide price of €3,000-€5,000.

Lot 146 is a black leather three-seat King sofa, designed by André Vandenbeuck, in 1964 for Strässle International, Switzerland. It has rosewood arms capped in leather and is mounted on aluminum so-called “ski” legs joined by a chrome steel stamped stretcher. This is guiding €1,500-€2,000.

There are several lots by Italian furniture maker Ceccotti from the Modern Sense collection. The lots 100-104a include a walnut Obi dining table with smoked glass top, measuring 250cm x 110cm, and guiding €3,000-€5,000. A set of eight walnut dining chairs with black leather seats is €3,000-€5,000.

Lot 105 is a pair of Wassily chairs, designed by Marcel Breuer with leather straps and tubular chrome frame. Dating from the 1960s they’re guiding €600-€1,000.

As well as some strong contemporary showings there are several pieces of eye-catching period furniture. Lot 59 is an 18th century Irish mahogany hunt table from Coole Park, the Co Galway home of Lady Gregory. It was bought by Christina O’Malley of Barna House, Co Galway, at a house contents auction at Coole Park in 1932 and has a guide price of €4,000-€6,000. Lot 53 is an early 19th century mahogany cabinet originally from Airfield House in Dundrum, guiding €2,000-€4,000.

Viewing is tomorrow, October 19th from 1pm-7pm; Saturday from 10am-6pm and Sunday from 10am-1pm. The auction starts at 2pm.
