US leading nominations in Best Irish Pub in the World competition

More than 800 pubgoers in 36 countries have nominated their favourite boozers so far

More than 800 pubgoers in 36 countries haveentered our Best Irish Pub in the World (Outside Ireland) competition so far, from locations all across the US and the UK, to the Philippines, Peru, and even Ulan Bator in Mongolia.

If we’re ever in Uganda, we’ll definitely drop in to Bubbles O’Leary’s (“an authentic Irish pub that was dismantled in Drogheda and shipped and transported to Kampala”). The Rising Sun in Laos and Healy Mac’s in Kuala Lumpur sound worth visiting too.

Going purely on numbers, the US is clearly in the lead with 328 nominations. Perhaps surprisingly, Austria is in second place with 89, while the Netherlands has 56, Germany has 65 and Australia 42.

Given the number of Irish living in Canada, the 34 nominations for Irish pubs there is arguably rather low, as is the just three nominations for pubs in New Zealand.
