READERS! LEND US YOUR JACKETS

READERS! LEND US YOUR JACKETS. We were delighted when stylist Cathy O’Connor sent us in these stormy fashion pictures featuring Georgia Salpa, but what we were really taken by was the sleeveless jacket (above) designed by John Rocha. Hmm, we wondered. Have we anything in our own wardrobes that could be thus deconstructed and given a new lease of life? (Although maybe not nipped in quite so tightly at our less Salpaesque waists?)

Re-Dress to the rescue. Beginning on Tuesday, January 25th, Re-Dress (re-dress.ie) is running an eight-week course in “Ultimate Upcycling” at its offices in 4 Hatch Street Lower, Dublin 2. It’s just one of its many courses in a variety of fashion-related skills. Its mission statement? “To promote the sustainable production of clothing in Ireland.”

In the meantime, we’d like to invite readers to send us photographs of a coat or a jacket that could do with a remake. We will pick one or two out from the selection and Rosie O’Reilly of Re-Dress will, after consulting with you, redesign it. And we’ll hope to photograph you in these pages when the upcycling is done.

To have a jacket of yours expertly redesigned by O’Reilly, submit your name and a photograph of the garment to stylecompetition@irishtimes.com by February 2nd. Tinker, tailor . . .
