Beauty tips: The best products for multipurpose magic

Reduce the clutter in your handbag with a few versatile necessities

We all lead busy lives. The beauty products that really appeal are those that work well at keeping us looking fresh-faced throughout the day. For a long time, my bag was weighed down with make-up “essentials” that, in truth, rarely saw the light of day.

A recent overhaul has reduced the number of products I carry around with me down to a few versatile necessities. Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant is one of the most useful products I have. As well as using it to protect your lips, you can use it to tame unruly eyebrows, as well as on scratches and cuts, patches of dry skin, snotty noses, cuticles and the dry, flaky aftermath of a spot.

The Loop at Dublin and Cork airports has a brilliant Christmas offer that, for €30, includes a full-size tube of Eight Hour Cream, Lip Protectant and a Daily Face Cream, which would normally cost about €70 if the products were purchased individually.

Essence has a range of Pure Nude Concealer sticks (above, €3.09 each), which come in three shades and cover blemishes and dark circles under your eyes. The pencil- like concealer makes touching up your make-up easy. Nothing more than your index finger is required to blend the product in. These two products will earn their keep in your handbag so that, at the end of the day, and in the words of Carrie Fisher: "You look fabulous, darling."
