Some people look at art with an eye to buy, and some to soak up the beauty, colours and ideas of the work without wrestling with budgets, bank accounts and (perhaps) consciences as to whether something can and should be bought and brought home.
Sotheby's annual Irish Sale is an opportunity to do either. During April, highlights from the sale, which includes work by Paul Henry (whose Connemara Villageis shown here), William Orpen, Jack Yeats, Louis le Brocquy, Sean Scully and Basil Blackshaw will tour Ireland, stopping in Waterford, Belfast and Dublin. The first opportunity to see what's on show before it disappears into private collections (or maybe even your own home) is in the gallery at Lismore Castle. Admission to Lismore to see the exhibition is free if you bring this page with you – falling in love with the art that could prove costly.
Highlights from the Irish Sale will be on show at Lismore Castle, Co Waterford, April 10th-11th, the Waterfront Hall, Belfast, April 15th-16th, 16 Molesworth Street, Dublin, April 18th-21st. The auction takes place on May 7th in London.
