Ed Sheeran: ‘My Irish heritage is something I’ve always been proud of’

London's Irish community get chance to see what Ed Sheeran is made of when he takes to the stage at the London Irish Centre in Camden on Tuesday.

“My Irish heritage is something of which I’ve always been proud of, so this concert feels like a natural fit,” Sheeran said ahead of the concert.

Second-generation Irish X-Factor presenter Dermot O'Leary, who is a patron of the LIC, will host the evening of entertainment, which also includes DJ Annie Mac, Lisa Hannigan, Loah and Stephen James Smith.

“I love what the London Irish Centre Charity do in terms of being at the heart of championing Irish culture and community in London,” Galway Girl singer Sheeran said.

“I’m hoping that people like Dermot O’Leary, myself and others can help them get their voice heard. We’re all very excited about the summer 2018 show - this is going to be something very special.”

The event will raise money for projects run by the centre to provide care, culture and support for the Irish community in London.

The London Irish Centre works with the biggest community of Irish emigrants in the world and has previously hosted events by artists including Sinead O’Connor and The Pogues.

“I’m very proud of my Irish heritage,” said O’Leary. “My parents were part of the post war generation of immigrants who came to London to find a new life, so the London Irish community is one that is very close to my heart.

“I’m looking forward to helping the London Irish Centre both promote Irish culture and support vulnerable people.”

The event, which is sold out, will raise money for projects run by the LIC to provide care, culture and support for the Irish community in London.

Ed Sheeran also sold out his Irish tour which ended on May 19th in Dublin’s Phoenix Park after nine concerts including three performances in the Phoenix Park and Pairc Ui Chaoimh, Cork. The 27-year-old Galway Girl singer also played gigs in Galway and Belfast.
