Profile: Robert Troy (FF)

Longford-Westmeath: First TD elected of four

Incumbent Robert Troy (FF) served as a member of Westmeath County Council from 2004 to 2011, before his election to the Dail in 2011. He will keep the seat he won in 2011 as the party’s only newly-elected TD. He replaced sitting Fianna Fail TDs Mary O’Rourke and Peter Kelly. Troy (34) became the youngest member of Fianna Fail’s parliamentary party and is the outgoing spokesperson on children and youth affairs. His political priorities are supporting small enterprise, incentivising commerce in the community, reducing childcare costs for working parents, tackling rural crime and ensuring flood defence structures and warning systems. The former postmaster lives in Mullingar. He coordinates the North Westmeath Suicide Outreach Group, fundraises for North Westmeath Hospice and is the treasurer of the Ballynacargy GAA.
