While Zomby has already zig-zagged around the genre houses a few times, Dedicationsees him tapping back into the dubstep realm with relish. After his hardcore high jinks (debut album Where Were U in '92?was a love letter to the rave era that pans out much better in retrospect than it ever did at the time), the new album is a much more considered and rounded beast that shines a light on the producer's technical and stylistic depths. The tracks are coated in yearning and nostalgia – Panda Bear, a musician well schooled in those sonic qualities, helps out on T hings Fall Apart– as Zomby turns his knack for working the dance floor into moody, beautiful, choral soundscapes that work far from the mirrorball. State-of-the-art electronica with a superb futuristic bent, Dedicationis also a sign of the 4AD label's creative rude health, with Bon Iver, Tune-Yards, Gang Gang Dance and now Zomby.
