Revolver, the new Guy Ritchie movie, received such a savaging from British critics that investigative journalists took on the task of probing the origins of the very rare favourable quotes - "Brilliant. Guy Ritchie back to his best" - which appear on the movie's publicity material and featured in two prominent ads in The Ticket last month.

The small print on the ad attributes it to the online edition of the Sun, but it transpires, as the Guardian discovered, that the second half of the quote emanated not from a Sun review, but from a promotional video supplied to the tabloid's website by the PR agency hired to publicise Revolver.

As for the "brilliant" bit, Private Eye traced that seal of approval to "a Page 3 girl" known only as Ruth and described as a 22-year-old glamour model from Kent. Ruth was quoted in a brief Sun news report on the movie's London premiere as saying, "I think it's a brilliant film and is going to be a big hit." That report rather spoiled it by adding, "By the way, folks - Ruth's in it!"
