Tháinig an sioc agus ní raibh fáilte ar bith agam roimhe.

Tugann Ó Dónaill le fios go dtig le duine bheith “sioctha leis na gáirí”. Ní fheicim ábhar ar bith gáire sa tsioc. A mhalairt. Bagairt atá ann. Sioctha leis an eagla roimh an tsioc a bhím. Is ionann an sioc agus bagairt. Feiceann daoine áilleacht i loinnir gheal an tseaca ach ní fheicim ach contúirt.

Siúlann an sioc agus an dorchadas le chéile ar chosán an Gheimhridh; comrádaithe dalba na drochaimsire iad.

Tá siad mór le chéile. Is iomaí sin comhrá a bhíonn acu. Bíonn siad sona i gcuideachta a chéile, iad ag beannú dá chéile ar maidin, ag comóradh a chéile ar feadh an lae, ag caint agus ag comhrá.

Tagann an oíche ach ní imíonn siad. Is maith leis an bheirt acu an oíche fosta. An ghrian amháin a ruaigfeadh iad ach ní hann don ghréin.

Níl gean agam ar cheachtar den bheirt. Cuireann siad eagla mo chraicinn orm.

Sioc sleamhain, dorchadas dainséarach. Ní thig leat an bóthar romhat a fheiceáil; ní thig leat an sioc dubh a fheiceáil sa dorchadas.

Faigheann an sioc dubh greim gan choinne ar ghluaisteán agus imíonn an carr den bhealach mhór, an tiománaí bocht sáinnithe, ag fanacht go dtiocfaidh aistear an tseaca chun críche.

Níl an carr faoina stiúir níos mó. An sioc a thabharfaidh rith an chladaigh don charr agus ag Dia féin atá a fhios cad é a tharlóidh.

Gráin atá agam ar shioc. Gráin.
