Úrscéal nua, Dialann mo Mháthar, le Pádraic Breathnach i gcló

Pádraic Breathnach – scríbhneoir

Is fada Pádraic Breathnach i mbun pinn. Foilsíodh a chéad leabhar thiar ag tús na 1970í agus tá sé ag scríobh leis go cumasach ó shin. Scríobhann sé aistí don nuachtán seo go minic – amharc suas! – agus tá cleachtadh mór aige ar an ghearrscéal agus ar an úrscéal mar mheán cruthaitheach.

Is é Dialann Mo Mháthar (Cló Iar-Chonnacht, €12) an t-úrscéal is déanaí dá chuid agus ábhar comhaimseartha mar théama ann – mídhílseacht phósta.

Lánúin óg, Péarla agus Sylvester, is ábhar don scéal agus is trí shúile a n-iníne, Éabha, a insítear an scéal.

20 bliain i ndiaidh bhás a máthar a aimsíonn Éabha dialann dá cuid. As leathanaigh a saoil a fhásann an scéal.

Bhain an leabhar gradam liteartha Oireachtais: “Tá sé bunaithe ar thaithí dhaonna agus ar mhaireachtáil sa saol nua-aoiseach agus caitheann sé solas suntasach ar imeachtaí saoil agus rites de passage áirithe de chuid an duine.”

Is fíor don mhéid sin agus tá buanna an údair féin mar scéalaí ann lena chois sin:

“Tá mé ag iarraidh a dhul abhaile.”

“Seo é do bhaile anois.”

“Ba mhaith liom a dhul abhaile do Dheaide.”

“De réir a dialainne is é seo an comhrá beag a bhí ag mo mháthair, Péarla, liom is í do mo chur ag an leaba an chéad oíche againn sa teach nua; mé ag coisíocht roimpi go mánla faoi dhéin an staighre, mo chloigeann cromtha.”

Sin an tús. Fút atá sé, a léitheoir, aistear brónach Phéarla a rianú chun críche.
