Temple Bar (again)

THAT hoary old report on public art was reportedly last spotted somewhere in the Department of Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht and few of its attributes are as yet known. Meanwhile, public art projects forge ahead, the latest one to be announced being the Temple Bar Street Art Symposium, which will see 10 temporary pieces being commissioned for that cultural quarter/open air bar. A site meeting will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Temple Bar Gallery and Studios and proposals must be in by Friday June 13th, for completion in September. Information on 01-6772255.

The following Saturday (24th), those few readers who have not shared their views on Temple Bar with this newspaper, will have a chance to sound off about the cultural quarter, when the brave Frank McDonald chairs a debate at Temple Bar Gallery (2 p.m. 5 p.m.) entitled Temple Bar - Success or Circus? The panel includes Laura Magaghy of Temple Bar Properties, the artist, Maurice O'Connell, and Prof. Willie Smith, of UCC's Department of Geography. Admission is free but call at the gallery to reserve a seat before Wednesday 21st.
